ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the resources allocation and service provision of hospital rehabilitation departments in China from 2009 to 2016, for finding problems and providing references for improvement of hospital rehabilitation system in China. Methods Using the statistical yearbook of health and family planning in China from 2010 to 2017,descriptive analysis was made to describe the rehabilitation service and resources allocation of hospital rehabilitation departments in China in recent years. Results From the perspective of service volume, the quantity of rehabilitative services was increasing year by year, and the number of patients discharged from the hospital has increased rapidly among the total number of hospital discharged inpatients countrywide. By the end of 2016, this proportion was 1.26%. From the perspective of resources allocation, by the end of 2016, the proportion of the rehabilitation beds was just 2.62% of all hospital beds. Personnel staffing was poor by the end of 2016, as there were only 0.02 practicing rehabilitation doctors (assistants) per every 1 000 population. Conclusions It is imperative to strengthen the resources of hospital rehabilitation departments, increase the number of hospital beds and personnel, and improve the pay for these staff, to ensure their service capability. It is also an important guarantee to provide the people with healthcare that is all-dimensional and full lifecycle.

ABSTRACT

A therapeutic intervention was carried out in 128 randomly selected patients with pain due to heel spur, who were treated in the Rehabilitation Department of "Orlando Pantoja Tamayo" Teaching General Hospital in Contramaestre municipality, Santiago de Cuba province, from January, 2014 to April, 2015, with the aim of evaluating the effectiveness of the Su-Jok therapy. Two groups were formed: a control group which received conventional treatment, and a study group, in which the Su-Jok therapy was applied. After the statistical analysis was carried out by means of the homogeneity and hypothesis tests of homogeneity of Χ2 and the means differences (both techniques with a permissible error of 5%), it could be concluded that the Su-Jok therapy is effective to mitigate the pain due to heel spur, so it was recommended to promote it taking into account its easy use and low cost.

Methods The statistics data of neurological rehabilitation treatment drugs in our hospital from 2008 to 2010 were statistically analyzed, including drug type, the amount of medication, defined daily doses (DDDs) and average defined daily cost (DDC). Results The amount of medication and DDDs increased year by year, the top 3 amount of sales drugs were neurological function and nootropics drugs, the top 3 for DDDs were the promotion of brain metabolism and nootropics drugs. Methylcobalamin tablets, nifedipine and aspirin enteric-coated tablet were in low DDC. ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the disease categories(DCs),admitting departments(ADs),length of stay(LS),and hospital costs(HCs)of the in-patients in the rehabilitation department of a general hospital. Methods A total of 1 246 in-patients admitted to the authors'rehabilitation department over the period from 2004 to 2005 were analyzed retrospectively with regard to their age,DCs,ADs,LS and HCs by means of the Hospital Case Enquiry and Statistical System of Guangdong Province. Results The average age of the in-patients in 2005 was 61.2?13.7 years, and their average number of DCs was 5.52?1.54.Common first diagnoses included cerebral in- farct(40.4%),cerebral hemorrhage(12.6%),cervical spondylosis(5.7%),traumatic brain injury(5.1%), and fracture(3.7%).Rehabilitation(52.3%,),neurology(26.4%),neurosurgery(7.9%)and orthopedics (4.1%)were the most common initial admitting departments. The average LS was 39.1 d,and the LS of patients with rehabilitation, neurology, orthopedics and neurosurgery as their initial admitting department was 23.7 d,44.4 d, 60.2 d and 62.4 d,respectively. The average LS of those with their first diagnosis as cerebral infarct, cervical spon- dylosis, traumatic brain injury and fracture was 34.2 d,21.3 d,64.2 d and 63.5 d,respectively. The average HCs were 36 168 yuan RMB,with the cost of medicine the highest(47.6%),followed by costs for various therapies. The costs for cervical spodylosis were the lowest, while those for traumatic brain injury were the highest. Conclusion The rehabilitation in-patients usually had multiple DCs,needed lengthy stays and incurred high hospital and medicine costs. It is suggested that early rehabilitation interventions should be implemented before the patients are transferred to the rehabilitation ward so as to reduce HCs and LS.
